Wichita, KS Campout, August 8 – 10, 2008

Twelve rigs attended the campout at USI RV Park in Wichita, joined by three members in cars.  Early arrivals spent time visiting and going to dinner at Ted’s Montana Grill.

 

They were treated to an ice cream and cake social by hosts Brigmans and Vehs later in the evening.

 

Friday morning, the ladies went to Karg Art Glass in Kechi where they observed glassblowers at work, checked out all the neat items for sale in the gallery and did some serious shopping.  It was a very interesting and worthwhile experience.  Meanwhile, Joe Hudson led the men on a tour of “Doc”, the B-29 that is being restored to flight status. The guys really enjoyed the tour that expanded to include the Kansas Aviation Museum.Several members were able to relate the displays to previous careers and associations.

 

Friday evening, most of the group attended the Mosley Street Melodrama for an excellent dinner before being treated to the “Wild Bill’s Baffling Barroom Barter” show, followed by their down home country musical comedy revue.

 

Saturday morning, we woke up to heavy rain that luckily turned to a drizzle before we went to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast.  The rest of the day was on our own with some going to Exploration Place to see the exhibit of “The Body” while others spent time in Old Town, Cow Town and other places of interest.  Some visited with family residing in the Wichita area.  An evening pot luck dinner was held in the RV park recreation room with hosts providing a delicious pork loin and drinks.  Guests, Linn and Mary Blankinship were guests at the dinner.  The Heartland Winnie’s business meeting followed dinner.  The evening was completed with members watching the Olympics, visiting, and playing cards.

 

Sunday morning, the hosts served coffee, fruit and biscuits with gravy for breakfast.  It was followed by a worship service conducted by Randall Weller, accompanied by Phyllis Weller.  Everyone departed for home or other destinations following the service.

The campout will be held at the USI RV Park at 2920 E. 33rd St. North, Wichita, Kansas.  Reservations need to be

We encourage a good attendance at this campout.  Officer elections will be held at the meeting on Saturday evening.
