The June Campout for the Heartland Winnies will be at the Cedar Point Campground, Lovewell State Park, Weber, Kansas on June 11 through 13, 2010.
Lovewell Lake is a heavily used camping area from Memorial Weekend until fall. There are very few sites that can be reserved. The portion of the Lake where we are staying has 3 sites, which can be reserved. I have already taken care of this. These sites will be available to the first three takers who cannot get to Lovewell until Thursday. Please let us know in advance if you desire one of these sites. Jack and I are recommending those who can, come in before Thursday. We will be there by Wednesday.
Camping fees are $14.50 a night ($7.50 camping and $7.00 electricity). If you choose a Prime Site (they are marked), it will cost an additional $2.50. Electrical plus water site is $9.00 a night. Electrical, water and sewer is $10.00. Those who wish to take one of the reserved sites have an $11.50 reservation fee tacked on bringing their total 3-night stay to $55.00. Those who have not registered their RV and/or tow vehicle with a Kansas State Park will be charged a $2.60 daily registration fee or $11.10 annual fee plus a $7.35 annual fee for tow vehicle. These fees are for seniors. Young folks are charged a slightly higher fee.
There is a good restaurant at the Marina, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other good restaurants (Buffalo Roam and Critters) are in Mankato, KS located about 13 miles from Lovewell. Further information is forthcoming but plan on dinner at the Marina on Friday evening, breakfast served by the Hosts (Jack and Phyllis Sills and Don and Anita Singular) Saturday morning, pot luck on Saturday evening (bring meat dish and either a salad, vegetable or desert) and breakfast provided by the Hosts Sunday morning. Church is at 9:30 a.m. at the Nondenominational Church at the campground.
From the North West take Highway 36 to 14 North. Others from the West take I-70 to 183 North, 36 East to 14 North. Members coming from the East take Highway 81 North to 36 West, then 14 North. There is a big sign on Highway 14 that shows the way to Lovewell Lake. Go until you get to a stop sign, then turn right. You will go past the State Park Office. Continue straight until you reach a Y in the road. Take the right fork. There are signs all along this route indicating where Cedar Point Campground is located. Look for the little WIT signs when you pass the State Park Office.
