Thirteen Heartland Winnie’s rigs attended the campout at the Lakeside Recreational Park at Assaria, Kansas.
Early birds arriving Thursday ate dinner at the Ol’ Stuga pub in Lindsborg, KS.
Friday, Linda Hubalek, farm owner, author of famous “Butter in the Well” books and co-owner of the Smokey Hill Bison company provided a guided tram tour of a bison herd in the field. We gained interesting insight into the herd’s physical and social characteristics.
Dinner was at Mike’s Steak House in McPherson followed by ice cream at Dairy Queen.
Saturday, following Heartland’s monthly meeting, the group caravanned to Lindsborg for a visit at the Hemslojd woodshop and gift shop. The shop made many symbolic wooden Swedish items with the Swedish Dala horse being their signature product. After lunch at a Swedish restaurant, the group was treated to a guided tour of the Small World Gallery. Jim Richardson, a freelance National Graphic Photographer, described some of his works. His presentation was highlighted by a picture story of the scenic Kansas Flint Hills. We then traveled a few blocks where we toured the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery. Ruth Peterson treated the group to a presentation and display of many of Mr. Sandzen’s works and provided insight into his life and work in the Lindsborg community. Our day was completed with a potluck dinner.
Sunday, following church service by Rosetta Bartels, accompanied by Anita Singular, everyone departed for home and other destinations.
A special thanks is extended to hosts Lynn and Anna Jacobson, Bob and Rosetta Bartels and Jim and Marilyn Ryan for a great weekend.
We were pleased to have Kansas WIT guests Ken and Jody Veltman and Louisiana WIT guests Larry and Kathy Morgan join us for the weekend.
