May 9 - 11

Well, it wouldn't be Dodge City without High Winds, Threats of Storms, and the outstanding Hospitality of Bill and Karen Hawley, Camper Clark, Dan, Richard, Norma, Lee, and all of his hard shop workers that make this weekend the absolute BEST way to start the camping season!

By 12:15 on Thursday coaches started showing up like a wagon train, and Bill was right in the middle of it making sure all the campers had a place to park and hook up to electric.

By the time everything was said and done, we had 28 rigs in attendance! Not bad considering gas prices jumped to $3.59! We were very greatful to have our Winnebago Area Reps Guy and Marianne Andenoro here as well as 8 other Guest Coaches.

Friday morning started with tours of the National Weather Bureau and the Dodge City Airport. This took all the morning, and after lunch Sandra Veh kicked off the afternoon meetings with an update on GNR. Sandra talked about different ideas for decorations for the row party. Guy mentioned that this year there will be a contest for the the best row decorations which will include a traveling trophy and a monetary award. (The other states better look out!) Randall then talked about the plans for our Branson trip. For more details on these conversations as well as other specifics throughout the weekend, please read the newsletters from State President Joe Hudson, and Chapter Presidents Dick Garcia and Neal Haerich. Winegard also had a very informative seminar on the new antenna modifications we will need to make to be able to pull in digital television signals next year. Friday ended with a BBQ Beef potluck with the meat and drinks provided by Hawleywood RV Ranch.

Saturday started off with a pancake feed cooked by the Haerich's and Martins. The Winnebago store was open and people took advantage of that to purchase shirts for GNR. A craft show followed and people could show off what they did during the winter to keep themselves "off the streets". This left time for lunch and the oportunity to miander through the new campers that Bill had on hand. Club meetings started at 2pm, and a potluck supper was held at 6pm. As part of the evening entertainment, we watched a few videos showcasing the campground we will be staying at while in Branson, Bill showed us a video of one of the proposed casinos planned for Dodge City, then the club had a "drive-in movie night" to get us in the mood for GNR.

Sunday we had breakfast burritos cooked up by the Haerich's and Martins, Neal held a prayer service with music accompanied by Brenda. We then packed up our rigs and headed towards the next camp out.

On a sad note, we had to say farwell to one of our long time members, John Holding, who passed away shortly after the campout ended. He arrived at the campout in good spirits, visited with a few of us, and passed on Monday night doing what he obviously loved doing. He has joined the list of our members who are now camping at a better campground.
