PRAIRIE WINNIES
SEPTEMBER 2008 MEETING MINUTES
On Saturday, September 27, 2008, our new president, Sandra Veh called the business meeting to order during the campout at Lake Shawnee in Topeka. Hosts were Dick and Bernice Spicer and Loy and Orpha Carlson. The hosts drew the winners’ name for the door prizes donated by Olathe Ford RV. Winners were Joy Basel and Bill Gehrke. Dewberrys were welcomed back to active membership. Guests John and Barb Gottschamar, members of KA-MO, were welcomed. There were twelve units present and two couples who joined us part time.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Shirley reported a balance on hand of $2,130.84 and announced that the club donated $229 to the park improvement project in Beloit. Correspondence included a note from Lottie Gregg and a thank you notes from the Bob Buster family and Joe and Shirley Hudson.
It was agreed that the club will continue to collect pop bottle tops to be donated to the Ronald McDonald house. It was agreed to continue the traditional winter gathering in Smolan in January. Sandra will schedule the event and let us know the date while we are at the show and tell in Abilene.
Plans for the 2009 GNR events were discussed. It was agreed to go to the new space at Waldorff College for our Wednesday luncheon. It was also agreed to serve one food at the row party instead of the finger foods that have been served lately. Sandra plans to have some kind of row event for the Kansas folks every day during GNR.
The birthdays and anniversaries were recognized and John Gottschamar was thanked for the pontoon boat rides.
The meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Rosetta Bartels, Secretary
============================================================
According to the Camp Host, Dick Spicer, the electric is 30 amp. Arrive with water tank full and waste tanks empty. There is a nice dump just outside the gate that is free for the use of campers.
A map of the area is at the bottom of the page
Arriving from the west via I-70 turn right onto I-470 South and go to last free exit. Get off there and go to South Topeka Blvd. (old hiway 75) Turn right to 45th st. (approx .5 miles) Turn left on to 45th St. and go east 3.3 miles to East Edge Rd. Turn left and follow road to camp ground on left. Arriving from southwest via the turnpike get off at south Topeka exit and turn right to south Topeka Blvd. . (old hiway 75) Turn right to 45th st. (approx .5 miles) Turn left on to 45th St. and go east 3.3 miles to East Edge Rd. Turn left and follow road to camp ground on left. If you arrive in Topeka by any other route, find Topeka Blvd. And go to 45th St. and follow above directions. 29th St. east will also get you to the lake via Croco Road. According to the Topeka Fire Dept. (and they should know) Croco Rd. is open from 29th south to the campground road on the right.
Just a little extra information.
Croco road, along the east side of Shawnee Lake, is now open from 29th Street to 45th Street. You can now access the campground from either direction without having to use East Edge Road. Croco Road is still closed between 29th street and hiway #10 making access from hiway #10 impossible.
Also, I am now informed that the campground has upgraded the electric to 50 amps.
Some interest has been indicated in visiting the governors mansion. It is open for tours on Mondays only so if anyone wants they can stay over and tour that beautiful old mansion.
Reservations are NOT required.
